Celebrate The 10th Anniversary Of Our Iconic Water Taxis
This year, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of our iconic water taxis, Twee and Drie. To mark this milestone, we are hosting a summer-long series of 60-minute evening cruises, travelling from Leeds Dock to Knostrop Lock. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy a serene escape along the picturesque waterfront.
For the past decade, our water taxis have been a symbol of both adventure and convenience, transporting around 120,000 passengers from the station to Leeds Dock each year. Passengers can see all the sights along the River Aire – from the fabulous canal boats on the river, Calls Landing, Lower Briggate Bridge, Leeds Minster, grand buildings, apartments, and more. Established in 2014, our service began with our two boats being shipped over from Amsterdam’s famous canal network and now providing a unique opportunity to experience the rich history and vibrant wildlife of the region.
Discover the Journey Ahead with Our Lead Organiser, Laurence
For a sneak preview of what to expect on your journey, we spoke with Laurence, one of the main organisers of the event. Here’s what he had to say:
“We’re delighted to be celebrating 10 years of the Leeds Dock Water Taxi this year by welcoming passengers aboard for a longer, evening cruise experience this summer.
Rather than simply travelling from point “A” to point “B” through the City Centre on the River Aire, we’re offering an opportunity to cruise with us down and up through Leeds Lock onto the Aire and Calder Navigation to Knostrop Lock and back.
The Aire and Calder was the industrial superhighway of its day and a hugely important part of what made Leeds so successful. Today it offers a relaxing, sleepy escape from the hustle and bustle of the City Centre: best experienced from the water.”
Join us as we launch on Friday, 19 July, and continue every Friday and Saturday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm until 28 September.
